8 myths and truths of Whole Body Cryotherapy

Updated: Feb 18, 2023

Let's set the record straight with some common myths and truths about Whole Body Cryotherapy.....

IT’S SCARY TO DO CRYO

It’s not.

We know it’s the unknown and it’s cold - but you will discover it’s mind over matter….when did anyone achieve anything from inside your comfort zone?

It’s also commonly asked if being in the chamber is a claustrophobic experience. The answer is no - Our chamber has a large glass door and a member of our team is always present in the room with you in the interests of health and safety.

The chamber will fill with freezing cold air which creates a light, frosty mist which is easy to see and breathe through. Rest assured, you are welcome to exit the chamber at any point, but you will reap the benefits of a full 3 minute experience which will leave you ready for more.

I’LL FREEZE TO DEATH

Ok - maybe a little bit extreme of a thought - but….. you can’t!

It’s just 3 minutes and at a temperature that is just low enough to shock the body into what is known as a thermogenic response to induce the benefits that include increased energy, decreased inflammation, flushing out toxins, releasing endorphins, lowering cortisol levels, calorific consumption.

All of our clients are subject to completion of a consultation form prior to entering the chamber which will inform us of any relevant health issues.

YOU DON’T FEEL ANYTHING FROM THE FIRST SESSION

Everyone is guaranteed a great nights sleep from their first session of cryotherapy.

Having regular cryotherapy (6-8 sessions over a 3 week period) will reduce inflammation in your body which can be the cause of numerous ailments.

Our clients visit us for different reasons. More often than not, people have a specific reason. Most commonly are sports injury recovery, skin conditions, general health and wellbeing, weight loss, insomnia.

CRYOTHERAPY IS ONLY FOR PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES

Many professional athletes do take advantage of the increased recovery time cryotherapy brings but that doesn’t mean cryotherapy is a treatment reserved for them.

Cryotherapy can help speed up recovery after strenuous workouts for any gym goer, runner, golfer etc and the benefits of cryotherapy extend beyond improving athletic recovery.

In fact, it’s the best way to reduce inflammation and symptoms associated with many health conditions like migraines, nerve irritation, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, anxiety and depression and arthritis.

CRYOTHERAPY HURTS

There are numerous rumours about cryotherapy, one of them is that the cold temperatures of the cryo chamber means the treatment session is painfully cold. Not so!

When administered by a trained healthcare professional like the team at Fit & Skin Studio, cryotherapy does not hurt. Air chamber cryotherapy sessions are a luxurious, relaxing, yet invigorating experience.

When you arrive for the treatment you will receive thermal socks, thermal gloves, thermal headband and thermal slippers (you stay in your underwear or you can bring a pair of shorts - sports bra or similar for females) Our team takes you to the Cryotherapy chamber room where you can comfortably change. With no downtime needed afterwards you’ll leave re-energised and ready to take on your normal activities. In addition, as the sessions are only 3 minutes, you can easily fit in a sessions before, during lunch break or after work.

You have no excuses!

CRYOTHERAPY IS DANGEROUS

While any treatment administered incorrectly has the potential to harm, properly executed cryotherapy treatments at Fit & Skin Studio are safe and effective.

Cryotherapy is safe for almost everyone. Mostly, people quite rightly try one session to put their mind at ease with any fears or questions they may have. They then progress into a block of sessions,

**Please note that cryotherapy shouldn’t be used by those with diabetes or other conditions that affect nerve sensation, women who are pregnant, and people with certain heart conditions or severe hypertension**

THERE’S NO EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT CRYOTHERAPY

Many non-scientific online discussions and articles claim cryotherapy has no foundation in science. As it turns out, most of these claims are unfounded.

A recent scientific review of research studies revealed the majority of evidence supports the effectiveness of cryotherapy. Another study suggested cryotherapy may improve soreness and could positively impact other wellness markers such as inflammatory mediators.

Many of our clients with chronic pains such as arthritis, sports related injuries or general aches and pains have expressed their amazement in just what regular cryotherapy sessions can do for them. It can work for you too. Just read through some of our testimonials on Google.....
